Young Leaders (YL)

Share your skills, gain new ones

Explorer Scout Young Leaders, often called ESYL’s or YL’s, are young people aged between 14 and 18 who volunteer alongside adults leaders in a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack, or Scout Troop.

The YL Scheme is an additional (or alternative) Explorer Scouts programme for the Young people who want to spent their time volunteering with a younger section. It provides a fantastic oppotunity to develop leadership skills and a range of other transferrable skills while having great fun.

The scheme is open to new members who want to join a YL and to existing Explorers. You can also also take part in the YL scheme as a volunteering placement for a Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The Young Leader Awards

Young Leaders complete training modules with the district Young Leaders Unit, to help give them the knowledge and skills they need.

By completing their training and a series of missions to put it into practice they can gain their Young Leaders Award badges
