- How to adapt your leadership style
- How the Scouts approach to Teams works
- How to welcome new volunteers
- How to run good reviews with volunteers, and how to recognise them for their work
- How to have constructive conversations
- How to carry out your responsibilities for permit approvals, activity approvals, and suspensions
- How to lead on inclusive growth
You’ll learn:
- What the Scout Method is and how we create impact
- How to involve young people and be youth shaped
- How to promote positive behaviour when working with young people
- How to plan and run safe and exciting programmes, so young people can achieve their top awards
- How to work with the parents and carers of our young people
First Response
Should be completed in the first 1 year.
Arranged locally as required Contact the Training Manager First Aid at Work may also contribute to this learning
For Trustees
If you are also a member of the Trustee board, you need to do this training – just once.
You’ll learn:
- What a Trustee is and what responsibilities you have
- Where to find resources and support for approaching your responsibilities
- How to manage premises
- How to manage risks as a Trustee
Optional – For everyone in the Leadership Teams
Please consider completing this training to gain the Welcome Chat accreditation for the benefit of your own and other Groups in the district in the support of new leaders.
You’ll learn:
- How to prepare for a Welcome Conversation, including scheduling, setting the right tone, and understanding the new volunteer’s background.
- The importance of discussing Scouts’ values, expectations, and safeguarding policies to ensure the new volunteer is aligned with Scouts.
- How to create a welcoming, two-way conversation that helps the new volunteer feel supported and informed about their role.
- What to do after the conversation, including reporting concerns, passing on recommendations, and ensuring the new volunteer understands their responsibilities.
